ENERGY STAR is a government designated symbol to help consumers identify energy efficient products and practices to help save money and the environment. Some of the considerations include:
- The product cost should be recovered by the consumer through utility bill savings over a reasonable amount of time if the cost is higher than a less-efficient competitive product.
- The product's energy consumption and performance is measured and confirmed with testing.
- The EPA revises specifications periodically.
PRODUCT TAX REBATES:
The government may offer tax rebates to help off-set the costs. To learn more about the current tax credits visit the EPA site page for 2011 Federal Tax Credits for Consumer Energy Efficiency.
ELECTRIC BILL REBATES:
ComEd offers home savings programs that are worth looking into to improve the efficiency of your home.
GAS REBATES:
Nicor provides gas in the northern third of Illinois, outside of Chicago, and offers a residential rebate that is worth investigating. Peoples Gas offers a Chicagoland Rebate program for those that live in Chicago.
